Personal information at ChinaClue
ChinaClue is responsible for personal information processed to provide this service, except where another provider handles it independently. Use our contact page for privacy enquiries and requests.
Information we receive
When you register, we store your email, a password hash, language preference, verification and account records, and registration IP address and browser information. We do not store your password as readable text.
If you choose Google sign-in, Google provides your account identifier, email, verification status and profile information. We use the identifier and verified email to create or link your account. We do not receive your Google password.
We receive comments you submit and information you send when contacting us. Approved comments, their date and public author name or avatar may appear on the site; your email is not displayed with comments.
Tools, cookies and browser storage
Many calculations and text conversions run in your browser. Page visits, site searches, sign-in and requests for tool data reach our servers. Requested URLs or search terms, IP addresses, browser details and errors may appear in service logs. Do not enter sensitive personal information unless it is needed for your task.
We use essential session cookies for sign-in security, local storage for your login token and session storage for verification and download steps. Signing out removes the stored login token. You can clear browser storage or block cookies, but account features may stop working. External font requests and Google sign-in also connect to their providers.
Comment drafts are temporarily kept in this tab’s session storage so you can continue after signing in or switching languages. Successful submission or signing out clears the draft.
Use and disclosure
We use information to provide accounts and downloads, verify access, moderate comments, answer requests and protect the service. Where a legal basis is required, we rely on providing the service you request, legitimate interests in security and service operation, applicable legal duties, or consent where required.
Hosting, email and other technical providers may process information needed to run these services. We may disclose information when required by law or to protect legal rights. We do not sell your personal information. Information may be processed in countries where our service providers operate.
Retention and your choices
We keep personal information for as long as needed for your account, submitted content, support, security and legal obligations, then delete or anonymise it. Retention depends on the purpose and applicable requirements; closing an account does not necessarily remove records that must be retained.
Depending on applicable law, you may request access, correction, deletion, a copy of your data, restriction or objection to processing, or withdraw consent where processing relies on it. Contact us to make a request; we may need to verify account ownership. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.
Updates
We update this policy when our practices change and show the revision date above. Material changes will be highlighted on the site or communicated by email where appropriate.
